Program Description

Event Details

The Great War was raging in Europe and the United States trying to keep its neutrality.  As the War was growing, President Woodrow Wilson was somewhat distracted from the world events by events in his own personal life.  The Lusitania, the pride of the Cunard Line, was continuing Transatlantic service between New York and Liverpool, sailing through the hostile seas of German U-boats.   Her speed was her great defense; however, her luck ran out in May 1915.  The luxury liner was torpedoed and sank in only 18 minutes with a great loss of life which including 128 Americans.  This incident set the US on a collision course with Germany which resulted with the US entering the Great War, now known as World War l.  The main leaders of this event, President Woodrow Wilson, First Lord of the Admiralty Winston Churchill, and U-boat Captain Walther Schweiger, are discussed.
