Patron Responsibilities & Conduct Policy

Last Updated Date

The rights of an individual to use TDL should not be abridged or denied because of origin, age, background, or views.  To guarantee these rights for all persons, no library patron shall engage in behaviors prohibited by the following rules of the Board.

No person shall:

  • violate any laws or local ordinances.
  • make commercial solicitations.
  • remove unauthorized library materials or equipment.
  • engage in conversations or noise level above typical conversation volume or voice level 2.
  • remain in the building after its regular closing hours unless for an authorized library program.
  • enter or remain in TDL without shirt and/or shoes.
  • sleep in TDL for an extended period of time (more than 10 minutes).
  • leave a child under 11 years of age unattended in TDL.
  • possess a firearm, knife or other weapon which is also prohibited in a public place. The weapon must be removed immediately (except those authorized by law).
  • use a bicycle, roller skates or skateboard in TDL. Bicycles may not be brought into TDL building.
  • bring an animal into TDL, except for leader and companion animals as defined by law.
  • smoke, vape, and/or use tobacco in the TDL building.
  • carry or consume alcohol on TDL property.
  • be allowed in non-public areas without prior arrangement from Director or designee.

Persons who violate any above policy shall be subject to disciplinary action as determined by the Director or designee.

POLICY STATEMENT ON VISITS BY YOUNG CHILDREN TO THE LIBRARY

TDL encourages visits by young children. Library Staff are not responsible for the care of children in TDL. Therefore, it is library policy that all children under the age of eleven (11) must be accompanied by a parent or designated responsible person while in TDL.

UNATTENDED CHILDREN

“Unattended” means that the responsible person is not in the building with the child. If it is determined that a child is lost or left unattended, a staff member shall bring the child to the Director or designee who shall then try to identify and locate the responsible person. If the responsible person has not been located on TDL property in a reasonable amount of time by Director or designee, the staff members shall call the police for assistance. If TDL is closing, at least 2 staff members shall remain with the child until the child is picked up or authority takes possession.
